Prompt: Destroy an object and place it in a communal spot, once you are done destroying an object use the pieces from other students to create a new object.
Example (a frog created from broken egg shell.)
An art form relevant to discus with this project would be Kintsugi
Kintsugi (金継ぎ, “golden joinery”), also known as kinsukuroi (金繕い, “golden repair”), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique.
After thinking about the original lesson I came across this article about a show where visitors would be asked to take apart an object and then asked to put someone else’s object back together. This made me realize that this project would be much better as a partially collaborative piece.

Resources for getting objects:
Slowly collect items that would be thrown away (this will need ample prep time i.e over the summer or during the year and have the lesson close to the end of the year.)
Go to a local dump and pick up items for cheap or free (no fabric or pores items must be cleaned before bringing them into the classroom.)
Invite students to being in old objects to take apart (with parents permission, letter, phone call, etc before destroying)
